Launched in September 2015 by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, Udyog Aadhar is a government scheme for the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises. For any economy to develop, it is important for its government to support such enterprises as they are the backbone of the economy. A 12-digit Unique Identification Number is provided by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises of the Government of India as Udyog Aadhar for such enterprises. It is also called the Aadhar for Business. More than 48 lakh MSMEs have been registered under the Udyog Aadhar as of July 2018 in India, which truly is a huge number. As per the notification announced by GOVERNMENT OF INDIA on 26th June, MSME Registration previously known as Udyog Aadhaar Registration will now be known as Udyam Registration. The government has announced these so as to make ease of doing business for the entrepreneur who wants to establish their own enterprise. The main motive for doing this is to enhance the capability of newbie entrepreneurs in order to initiate “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. The new online Udyam registration has been made available from 1st July 2020.
According to the government's latest notification released on June 26, 2020 the upcoming and existing companies should register under the Udyam registration portal. Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises previously registered under UAM or EM I and II have had to re-register their MSME on 1 July 2020. The companies registered before 30 June 2020 should be re-registered according to the new government concept of MSME and the companies already registered under MSME Udyog Aadhaar will be valid only until 31st March, 2021.

Previously, there was no option to update Udyam registration certificate. You can update the Udyam Registration by just providing the Udyam registration number you received after the application process. It’s a 12 digit number which you have to enter in to the Update Udyam form.
